Trademark cost calculator (USPTO fees)
Updated November 2, 2026
This estimator adds up the government fees the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) charges for a trademark application and the filings needed to keep it alive. It uses the USPTO fee schedule in effect since January 18, 2025. Attorney fees are not included.
Where these numbers come from
- Base application: $350 per class, filed electronically in Trademark Center.
- Insufficient information: $100 per class if required details are missing.
- Free-form text: $200 per class for writing your own goods and services description instead of using the ID Manual, plus $200 for each extra 1,000 characters per class.
- Statement of use: $150 per class, needed for intent-to-use applications once you start using the mark. Each six-month extension costs $125 per class.
- Keeping it registered: a Section 8 declaration ($325 per class) between years 5 and 6, then a Section 8 and Section 9 renewal ($325 each per class) every 10 years.
